 For thermal transfer bar code printers, a special bar code carbon strip is required to print information such as bar codes and text on the label. This special ribbon (commonly known as bar code ribbon) is the Thermal Transfer Ribbon, which is generally composed of a base film, a heat-resistant coating, and an ink coating.

The base film is a carrier of a barcode carbon ribbon, and a polyester film of 4.5 μm thickness is generally selected, and its strength and thickness directly affect the elongation of the barcode ribbon and the application field; the main function of the heat resistant coating is heat insulation, friction reduction, Reduce the dust on the print head, protect the print head and extend the life of the print head; the ink coating consists of pigments, resins, waxes, additives, etc. It affects the printing temperature, print quality, and barcode ribbon of the barcode ribbon. The main properties of the color, the rubbing resistance of the imprint, etc., are the core of the bar code ribbon. The commonly used black bar code ribbon ink component has carbon powder, which is why this strip of carbon ribbon is often called a bar code ribbon.

The barcode ribbon is on the thermal transfer barcode printer. The heat-resistant coating is in direct contact with the thermal transfer head. The thermal transfer ink is in direct contact with the substrate (standard). During operation, the thermal transfer head releases heat instantaneously and heats the hot spot. The heat transfer coating and the base film are transferred to the thermal transfer ink coating, and the ink is melted and burned onto the substrate to form characters and images. The high quality bar code ribbon has no residue of the thermal transfer ink in the heated portion after its transfer. The barcode ribbon can be divided into inner carbon and outer carbon from the winding mode. The inner carbon means that the ink side is in contact with the shaft on the barcode ribbon, and the outer carbon means that the inkless side is in contact with the shaft. General Barcode Printers Two barcode ribbons can be used. Only individual printers can only use barcode ribbons with internal or external carbon.
